I was listening to one of my favourite songs by @pinksweats called “Honesty,” and the opening lines are:⁣ ⁣ ‘She said, "Baby, I'm afraid to fall in love⁣ 'Cause what if it's not reciprocated?”’⁣ ⁣ It’s completely normal to be dependent on your partner to some extent. Nevertheless, strong inclinations towards dependency are birthed from attachment styles where trust was lacking and fear was a prevalent theme. Anxious or avoidant attachment styles in relationships can look like codependency.⁣ ⁣ When are needs are met, we can feel secure – and paradoxically, security can create automony. I believe when we find someone we can feel safe with, they will inspire us to fall in love with ourselves. As a result we feel safe with them, but safe with only ourselves too.⁣ ⁣ Nevertheless, we can gain that security and enjoy autonomy before we step into a relationship. We can practice self-love and attend to our needs, so that another isn’t a primary source of our healing, but a presence to be enjoyed.
