For Wallpaper’s November issue, I spoke to French artist Cyprien Gaillard ahead of his mega two-part exhibition ‘Humpty \ Dumpty’, now open at @palaisdetokyo and @lafayetteanticipations in Paris. Gaillard’s show digs into the politics of renovation, specifically the buildings and monuments overlooked during Paris’ facelift for the 2024 Olympics. It’s an immense show; a searing, nostalgic social excavation involving asbestos (vitrified - don’t panic), a ‘mouth to mouth’ on a long-neglected mechanical clock, and 10 industrial sacks of ‘Love Locks’ removed from Paris bridges.
