PART ✌🏼 of my Instagram Fact Checker Saga - all about the time I got flagged for “spreading false information,” then tried to appeal it... and this is what occurred. All because I put a potato in a sock. Prepare yourself. 🤯🤯🤯 Here’s the deal: I agree that the spreading of false information is dangerous. But SOME OF THE THINGS I SEE ON SOCIAL MEDIA are mind boggling and could cause genuine harm. What doesn’t cause harm? A video of a mom putting potatoes in her kids’ socks. Secondly, whether this was directly from a Meta employee or a “third party fact checker” - either way, this is someone representing Meta/Instagram as a company. Meta is a multinational technology conglomerate and this level of unprofessionalism is truly astounding. Last but certainly not least, when one of your videos is flagged as spreading false or dangerous information, your entire account is flagged. This also means that if additional videos of mine were to get flagged, my entire account could get shut down. As a creator and as someone who uses this platform as a business, this is terrifying. And on that note - as a creator, I get paid through Instagram’s bonus program for my reel views. A video hitting in the millions of videos is lucrative for me and something I obviously appreciate / strive for. When this video was flagged mid December, it had 3.6 million views. In the past three weeks, I get notifications for countless comments, likes, and shares on this same reel daily (meaning the view count is consistently rising). However - if you look at how many views the video has, it still states 3.6 million. So... was this just a way to avoid paying my earned bonus $ on this particular viral video? It’s hard to say, but disappointing none the less. These policies just seem so unfair and so detached from the people that actually love and utilize this app. And it felt like something worth bringing to light. To @instagram / @creators, I would love love love to appeal the “false information” decision with someone other than who I was originally connected with. And to Alan Duke with Lead Stories, I hope you and your old wife had a wonderful holiday season. . . #fac#factcheckc#factcheckingrt2 #fyp
