On World Animal Day, we’re celebrating the rich diversity of wildlife that #GGNRA offers! Golden Gate’s proximity to a bustling San Francisco might make one assume that we’d have a lack of wildlife... BUT our coastal ecosystems support an abundance of wildlife including: 387 vertebrate species. 53 species of mammals 20 species of reptiles 11 species of amphibians AND 250 species of birds!!! The most visible wildlife in #GGNRA is DEFINITIVELY the birds as seen in this video of a resident turkey vulture taking in the views of our beautiful city by the bay... Did you know: Unlike most birds, Turkey Vultures have an excellent sense of smell?! We think this individual mumbled , “Smell ya later!” before taking flight.... 🎥: James Manzolillo, NPS #WorldAnimalDay #TurkeyVulture #GoldenGateNationalRecreationArea #NationalParkService #NPS @nationalparkservice Video Description: A turkey vulture sits on a fence located along a scenic coastal trail high above the San Francisco Bay. It takes flight, offering up views of its massive wingspan along with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.
