For years my followers have told me that they came for the curl content, but stayed for the authenticity. And for the past few years I’ve really struggled to show up online and be my unapologetic, authentic (often chaotic) bubbly self, here’s why...
🚨WARNING: the themes in this post may be triggering for some people, and it will feel jarring to go from the darkness of my reality to the Instagram “pose and smile for the picture.”
Honesty and authenticity are really important to me, they are the values I’ve built my brand on - because they mean so much. So it just didn’t feel right to post these pictures and share these small moments when I was struggling with all this other stuff no one knew about. It didn’t feel authentic, so I didn’t post. I slowly slipped away from social media, because it no longer felt safe.
This person has already taken so much from me, I decided it’s time to be honest and share what’s been going on in the hopes that I’ll take some power back and be able to find a new way to show up and connect with the incredible community that I’ve built over the last 9 years - in a way that feels genuine, authentic and ✨safe✨.
I know that I’ll never be able to go back to how things were, too much has happened and so much of who I am (or was) has changed. I can’t go back, but I can begin again and hopefully you’ll join me on this journey too 🌙✨
