“I started MUD\WTR because I was addicted to coffee. It gave me sprinting peaks of energy, but was often followed by anxiety and a crash. So, when I recently read “Why Your Therapist Cares if You Drink Coffee,” a Trends w/ Benefits article by Gina Tomaine, it was honestly pretty gratifying. I’m not the first to talk about this: Therapists literally put the question on their intake forms. Caffeine is a stimulant. It works by blocking your body’s adenosine receptors, which prevents you from becoming tired, and can make you feel more alert and energized. But, for people who suffer from anxiety or have trouble sleeping, it can be no bueno. As Jennifer Hill, a licensed clinical counselor interviewed in the article, said, “It’s a stimulant and it’s not doing any favors for your brain when you’re already having symptoms of anxiety.” Our vision for MUD\WTR is to dethrone coffee. I like this phrase, “dethrone coffee,” because when a king is in power, you’re not allowed to question that power. And when it comes to coffee, I think a lot of people drink it without really questioning its power over them. I sure didn’t.
