Joel Holland’s (@joelholland_studio) illustrated book project NYC Storefronts started as a few posts on Instagram during lockdown. The posts were met with an enthusiastic response; his followers loved the drawings and encouraged him to make more. He continued to document the city’s small businesses as they faced lockdown, which eventually turned into a collection of hundreds of drawings from all over the Big Apple. The book has since been published by Prestel, and the collection of illustrations pays tribute to the businesses that hold so many of New York’s communities together.
