“October 2017 I sustained a life changing Spinal Cord Injury that would have me left in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. I went from an independent ‘able’ mother of two and personal trainer, to thinking all my dreams and goals were over. "I'm disabled, useless and won’t be able to be a mum!" Oh how I was wrong. Fast forward nearly 5 years and I’ve done 2 marathons, battled years of neuropathic pain, sailed the Caribbean seas, adaptive skied down slopes in US, pushed to the summit of mount Snowdon and represented Great Britain in Woman’s Para Ice Hockey, but the most important and biggest achievement so far was welcoming the safe arrival of our 2nd daughter Isla-Rose in June 2022. My biggest fear was how could I safely move my baby around. I have scaring on my back which left me with super hypersensitive skin on my midsection to the point where sometimes the touch of my clothes feels like it’s burning. So I needed a baby carrier without all the buckles. I used my @freerider.co sling when I arrived home from a successful natural birth, and wow was I impressed. The comfort of the sling fabric around me, with no hard buckles or uncomfortable straps digging in my back was already winning me over. Being paralysed makes a lot of things difficult, and having to transfer onto the sofa or into the car whilst holding the baby, I thought would be impossible. But the sling allows me to be handsfree, so I can safely get myself and Isla-Rose onto the sofa or in the car without relying on anyone to hold her. Without the Sling I WOULD NOT be able to move around the house. I'm able to attend to my other children’s needs, as well as getting on with all my household duties (always with her sound asleep in the sling may I add). Overall I am so thankful that we came across these Freerider.Co slings as they have given me a confident and independent start to being a wheelchair parent.
