Thank you so much @potus @flotus for inviting me to the 32nd year celebration of the ADA at the White House! This community has fought tirelessly and resiliently and I am endlessly grateful for my disabled ancestors who are the reason why I can expect employers not to discriminate, ride public transportation (sometimes), enter and expect to be able to enter public establishments, attend school, and continue pushing that needle of inclusion forward. To my disabled community members who lived before ADA, I thank you for all your work that allowed me to have these rights. To those who were born after, we still have a lot of work to do. Don’t confuse advocacy burnout with frustration. You’re allowed to be mad and upset and annoyed and whatever feeling this world that wasn’t made with us in mind makes you feel. But once you’ve felt your feeling, use that fire to keep pushing that needle of inclusion forward. So one day the little disabled kids won’t know a world where they feel that feeling. But I know we will because we always figure out a way to make it happen, as a team, as a family, as the most resilient group of people you will ever encounter.
