There are numerous methods, types of equipment and loading paradigms that a coach may prescribe. Some are married to one system and are the “x” guy”, whereas most just use any methods that work.
Flywheels are a very unique tool that I use (where available) where appropriate. I wanted one for a long time and during the pandemic decided to take the plunge - I don’t use it often but when I do 🔥
The Kbox uses inertial force (continues to move until an opposite force is exerted) created by the flywheel size you add, combined with the effort you put in to the concentric (way up) portion of the exercise. Because of this, the force generated is variable - the more force you put in, the more momentum is generated for you to then absorb/ redirect in the eccentric (decent). What makes it unique, is that with weights, the heavier you go, the slower the movement will be, especially when it gets to your designated ‘end range’, and the inertia will be zero (or very close to) where you then redirect the barbell and begin your concentric portion of the lift. With the Kbox, the more force you exert, the faster the movement, and the more force required (higher the inertia) at the bottom to slow it down and then redirect.
