My grandmother Shirley was hilarious and whip-smart, beautiful and charming. She raised 5 daughters and then helped raise 14 grandchildren and made sure we all felt special, loved, and supported at all times (to unprecedented levels of grandmother bias, really: she was known for mailing us magazine clippings of actors or models with a post-it note attached: “this looks like you”). She was my favorite pen pal and my style icon, and I will miss her so much. One of her friends told me this weekend that she’d recently asked to be remembered as “the most glamorous pillar of society,” which seems pretty reasonable to me. We love you, Granny.
