Got to take the two smalls to the @ljbtc this weekend, and wow there's really something incredible about revisiting one of your favorite parts of childhood with your own kids. My family never had a membership, but many of the families we were friends with did and they generously shared this magical place with us. It feels like I spent half my childhood running between the beach and the pool, racing around the grounds looking for the ducks, and hoping somebody's mom would suggest getting peppermint milkshakes. Hadn't been back in a decade, at least, and while some places are best in your memories, this one was exactly the same as I remembered. Except now the kids running around are mine, which still is wild to me, on a number of levels. Seeing Clark and Wilder fall in love with this place, watching them dig in the sand with @carole_kerr and demand @johnedkerr get in the pool? What a gift. What a marvelous, unexpected, wonderful gift. They say you can't go home again, but sometimes, when the weather is right and the stars align, you can, and it is miraculous. (And Clark refusing to give us a normal smile? That's how you know it's real and not just a part of the simulation. I'll take it.)
PS: And I'm sorry but the sunglasses are @jcrew and they're sold out, which I'm sharing because I always get questions.
PPS: Once again, this is as close to a family portrait as we've ever had. Our inability to get everyone together is astonishing to me. Like hearding cats.
