the abundance that artists bring to fair: from culturally based designs to contemporary works, works that are lush in their tactility, to pieces drenched in relevance and unabashed urgency. this year was by far no exception. our first in-person market in two years; it brings raw emotion, joy, and tears. tears of jubilance for those who journeyed here, and of sorrow for those we have lost in the community. i do not take for granted the magnitude of being a part of this weekend - what it means most immediately and what it means in a meta context. the sheer power of Indigenous creativity. the palpable magnitude of Indigenous resilience and resistance to colonization. this community, this art, fights as antidote to oppression, as antidote to settlerism, as antidote to cruelty. the imperfection of this weekend is real. the messiness. but the purity of energy to build is also. this is what contemporary art is. this is contemporary art.
