New buildings are like a snapshot in time, condensing the history of a location into physical form. That's certainly true of our project The Milestone, a literal "land-mark", where the façade displays the surroundings of the town of Esslingen! 🗺️⁠ ⁠ Located near Stuttgart, Esslingen am Neckar is one of many small towns in Europe that compete for recognition. Using printed glass, The Milestone's façade traces the boundaries of Esslingen and the topography of its landscape.⁠ ⁠ This printed map is pushed in through a series of pixels that form an “Esslinger Room”. A series of stairs, terraces, and platforms emerge and leads to the other side, reaching a viewpoint in the shape of the city centre. Each pixel carries different information, featuring the stories of the city and its inhabitants.⁠ ⁠ In contrast, at night, the building becomes a beacon for Esslingen, illuminated through its façade and creating an extraordinary atmosphere.
