In this move fast culture where output and products of creativity are lauded, I think I’m now trying to move a bit slower …. Since the start of 2022 this is a message that’s been sinking in as someone guilty of trying to harness, control and steer my creativity like a machine the past year… Here’s some cultural context too: moving slower feels kinda decolonizing to me as someone who’s approached producing with an ‘Indian work ethic’ in the past (yes, think years of rote learning education in the Indian school system). Slowing down is my way of challenging an Industry + society that rewards productivity, and puts people who don’t sleep on pedestals. No shade towards those who give everything to music - so much respect for these folks, I’ve been here too - but we’ve got to also envision, define and advocate for other models and journeys for musical and creative success 🌊 Damn, these daily reservoir runs been doing wonders the for mind + body 🦁🌀
