Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! Today I am reminded that there is no Black liberation without Indigenous resistance And there is no abolition without Indigenous sovereignty While modern policing, particularly in cities, arose from slave patrols, park rangers in the US were created to force Indigenous peoples off of their land. More recently, ICE was created as yet more evidence of US imperialism. From cities, to national parks, to arbitrary borders, policing will always be a tool that is used for the on-going oppression of Black, Indigenous and People of Color. We ought to have the same energy for #landback that we do #blacklivesmatter and #abolishICE because these movements are all connected When whiteness is put on a pedestal, we forget that the traditional behaviors it demands have nothing to do with us, and everything to do with controlling us. The future is the abolition of the colonial state.
