Triponent House, Los Angeles, California, 1962 Architect Bernard Judge šŸ“· Julius Shulman - Last picture Ralph Crane for @life šŸŽ„ Newsreel by British Pathé via @forgottenmadness_la The ā€œTriponent Houseā€ was Judge’s effort to find an economically sound solution to housing using the finest technology of the day. He called his experimental house ā€œTriponentā€ for its three intrinsic elements: the envelope, utility core, and interior spaces. The envelope consisted of a 50-foot diameter geodesic dome covered with transparent Mylar, and shaded by photo-electric cells. The utility core contained the manufactured plumbing, utilities, kitchen and bathroom appliances, mechanical and electrical systems. Interior spaces were left open for the individuals using them to design for themselves accordingly. The house was dismantled in the mid-1980s and gifted to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, except for the staircase that was installed in Bernard Judge’s new tree House. I had the chance to tour the tree house recently with Judge’s wife and walking down that staircase felt particularly special šŸ¤ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #architecture #archidaily #archilovers #amazingarchitecture #architecturedesign #architecturelovers #archiporn #interiordesign #homedecor #homeinspiration #design #designinspiration #interiordesigner #interiordesign #interiors #homedecor #interiordecorating #modernist #modernism #modernistarchitecture #midcenturymodernhome #midcenturymodern #midcenturymodernfurniture #midcentury #californiamodern #californiadreaming #californialove #indooroutdoorliving #landscapedesign #hollywoodhills #geodome #domehouse
