8 years since Rich was cruelly taken from us... As most know I'm on my old phone as a temporary replacement. One of the great joys in this is seeing so many videos, photos and memories from my 4th year in Leeds onwards. One of my happiest times with the most incredible people. It breaks my heart that Rich should have returned from his year abroad in time to feature. My phone should be filled with incredible memories of him, like so many of my friends on my camera role, being an idiot, being kind and just generally being the awesome person that he was. Stories of further rugby achievements, further academic prizes and stories shared by all of their endless amazing encounters with the best of us, Richard Mayne. But his story was stolen by Putin. Stolen by his illegal war that has taken so many innocent lives on top of Rich's, stolen over the skies of Ukraine in 2014. I think of those whose homes had falling bodies, plane segments and personal affections land in their houses and fields who now have most likely joined Rich in being fatal victims of Putin's twisted desires. I will never understand the evil of Putin. Rich was the most incredible person, full of curiosity and with the gift of the gab. He could entertain anyone at anytime. I hope that I have provided even the slightest bit of entertainment to you, Rich, compared to all who you entertained effortlessly with your radiant shine. You truly were the best of us.
