It’s been a week since my sister Samira passed away. I haven’t posted yet because truthfully, I haven’t known what to say. So I’ll say it all. I grieve for my parents, who never imagined burying a child. I grieve for her friends and the rich community she built in Virginia Beach. I know all her familiar places are a little bit dimmer now, without her smile and the boisterous energy she brought to truly every situation. I grieve for my sisters and brother, each of whom is soldiering so bravely as they navigate this in their own way. I grieve for a life cut way, way too short.
