"Sober youth enjoy sporting, not poaching!" The youth sports games in Musambakaruma Ward 10 proved that when communities rally behind positive platforms, real change happens. With hundreds of young people engaged, the event became more than just a tournament, it was a powerful space for shifting mindsets and encouraging youth to choose conservation over poaching. Wildlife Conservation Action used this opportunity to raise awareness on Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation, Climate Smart Livelihoods, and the role of science in conservation, from collaring wildlife to monitoring movements through camera traps. We also tackled the issue of retaliatory killings, sharing practical solutions that promote coexistence. With the support of community leaders like Chief Musambakaruma, a patron of the host Nyaminyami Community Sports and Recreation Club, we are seeing the value of sport in shaping a conservation-conscious generation.
