I’ve been thinking a lot about love lately (as I often do)—how it shapes us, moves us, and transforms us. Great love, shared with another, isn’t just a feeling or a fleeting connection. It’s a spiritual practice. It’s an invitation to manifest a higher version of yourself through the words, actions, and intentions exchanged with your love. In its purest form, love is an act of compassion, kindness, and deep connection—not just with someone else but also with yourself. It asks you to turn inward, to become self-aware, and to touch something sacred, something bigger than yourself. Loving deeply requires effort, much like meditation or prayer. It’s a choice you make, again and again, to nurture and expand the bond you share. But love doesn’t leave us untouched. It pushes us to confront the parts of ourselves we’d rather avoid—the messy, unpolished pieces we keep tucked away. It has a way of humbling us, of peeling back the layers we thought were secure. As George Orwell wrote, “The essence of being human is that one does not seek perfection, and that one is prepared, in the end, to be defeated, and broken up by life, which is the inevitable price of fastening one’s love upon other human individuals.” Love demands this vulnerability—it asks us to risk being undone by it. This is where love transforms us. It strips away the old frameworks we cling to, the identities we’ve carefully constructed, and forces us to rebuild from a deeper, more authentic place. To grow through love, we have to allow the uncomfortable and imperfect parts of ourselves to rise to the surface. It’s not about battling the ego or seeing it as the enemy. Instead, it’s about recognizing that the struggles it creates are part of the process—raw material for our growth and evolution. Love, in all its complexities, is a practice. It stretches us, reshapes us, and opens us to a version of ourselves we didn’t know was possible. It’s not perfect, but through its challenges, it reveals the beauty and strength we carry within.
