Yesterday, 31 August, marked International day for people of African descent. Celebrated for the first time in 2021, it is a day to celebrate the amazing culture, heritage and contributions of Africa BUT it is also a day to raise awareness and join the fight of structural discrimination that derived from years of colonialism and enslavement. In alignment with our mission at We Belong, we call on citizens, leaders and institutions to 1. acknowledge some of the darkest chapters of human history, 2. raise awareness about the structural discrimination, inequalities and differential treatment that persists and 3. join the fight, walk the talk and embody the values of dignity, human rights and belonging - why?
