On the worst days, Antony Loveless, 54, and his partner, Claire Hooper, 53, are entirely bedbound. The couple have spent days, weeks, months just motionless. At one point Claire went without a shower for 12 days. On better days they go downstairs to sit in their armchairs, but even that is exhausting. They put reminders on their phones but forget why. Recall for names, faces, even the start of a sentence as they’re trying to finish it, dissolve into thin air. The couple, from Southend-on-Sea in Essex, tested positive for Covid-19 on January 4, 2021. Antony believes he contracted it from a colleague at the London Gateway port near Tilbury, where he worked as the lead accident investigator, and brought it home. The initial infection hit them both like a sledgehammer, bringing on 40C temperatures and crippling fatigue. They kissed goodnight believing they might not wake up the next morning. 🔗 Read the full story on The Times website
