Story time!
This throwback photo by @lauren_a_krohn from December marks the day I decided I was gonna get my manicurists license, while selling my designs at @foxyvintagefair.
I’ve been painting art on my nails for years but never thought to offer the service to others. About a week prior to this, I had decided to take the plunge into doing nails professionally which is how I found myself sitting at my booth (pictured) selling my @itsstellaroseshop designs and talking to @sonyaabrego (also pictured) about my big plans and schemes— when she asked if I was gonna get a beauty license.
I said “naw, I don’t need that”.
In the time it took her to go get a drink and come back, I had done a deep dive into Google and learned that yes, I did in fact need to have a license to start a nail art business, AND I had found a local beauty school program that cost less than my astronomical NYC rent which would have me licensed by spring.
A few days later, I was enrolled.
And now, 5 months later, I am holding my temporary license and am one final step away from getting my permanent one.
Why am I telling you this?
First: it’s cool. I did a thing. It cost a bunch of money and time and it was challenging and I pulled it off and only cried a couple times.
Second: tomorrow, in true full-circle fashion, I’ll be back selling at the @foxyvintagefair, but this time I’ll be running a nail art booth with my budding venture @thefingerbuffet! When I left the last Foxy Fair, I told the promoters I’ll be doing nails at the next one. And now I am. So there.
I’ll be set up doing gel manicures with art for a special price tomorrow from 2-7! It’s all happening at @tveyenyc. Swipe for the flier.
See you there? 💅
