After swimming in the amount of love I’ve received the past couple days, I figured I should do what I know best: write about it!
Through a string of fortunate events, I have found myself to be the first Black woman athlete on @thenorthface team. In this role I have hopes to share stories about adventure and how it applies to the human experience. Our connection to Nature is wildly overlooked in modern culture. I want to share that everyone, even regular folks like me, can find their place back home in the outdoors.
But I didn’t do it alone. Along the way, those string of events began to intertwine with the help of many supportive people. The stories that weave with mine created bonds stronger than a 10.1mm rope. This achievement is for them and because of them. From the bottom of my heart and the peak of Chomolungma (“everest”), I have the honor of saying thank you.
Phew am I happy writing exists because I could not get through speaking this without crying! No way!
I’m the first Black woman, but I will not be the last. I’m ready to rise to the responsibilities involved with stewarding the trail. Growing up in Texas, I was able to obtain a bachelor’s degrees in Adversity (yeehaw🤠). I will charge forward in order to guarantee that the black and brown kids after me have time to stop and look at the trees.
Thank you everyone for the kind words. I promise I will not let you down. Tagged are the people and organizations that helped me get to where I am today. You should go check them out! ✌🏾&💛
