Sir Salman’s Rushdie’s family have said his “usual feisty and defiant sense of humour remains intact” as they revealed that the author had suffered life-changing injuries when he was stabbed on stage.
Zafar Rushdie, 42, said his father remained in a critical condition after being attacked as he prepared to deliver a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution, in New York on Friday.
Rushdie, whose novel The Satanic Verses led to death threats from Iran in the 1980s, sustained injuries to his arm and liver after being stabbed multiple times and remains in hospital.
