The short answer? No. The “perfect” way to practice doesn’t exist.
Over the years, I’ve realized that the “right” way is entirely dependent on your personality and your character.
I’ve had teammates who show up, hit for 10 minutes, and they are locked in. That’s enough for them. They got their quality, they got their rhythm, and they’re ready to compete.
On the flip side, I’ve seen players who need a 4-hour block on the court, followed by two hours in the treatment room, and an hour of meditation just to feel prepared.
Neither one is wrong. But here is the one universal truth I’ve found: It is always about Quality over Duration.
The moment you are just “hitting balls” without getting better, you need to stop. You’re wasting time. There has to be a purpose when playing, if you want to get better of course…
The best practice happens when you can put yourself in a situation where you might not want to be there, maybe you’re tired, maybe the drill is brutal, and you still find a way to squeeze the most out of it.
That mental grit? That’s the only “perfect” way to practice.
