This year Oscar Murillo (@lacachepli) has created a new sound work👂, drawing inspiration from his global collaboration with school students, Frequencies (@frequenciesinstitute), which involves blank canvas beeing placed on classroom desks around the world to collect the drawings and incidental markings of young people. This new sound work, titled Storm From Paradise (2022), is created from layered ‘sound particles’ 🎶 – recordings from different locations such as school playgrounds; basketball courts; traffic roundabouts; vegetable gardens; in much the same incidental way as the canvases gather information. The generative soundscape continually changes, as the sounds respond in real time to cues from tracking the take-off, landing and flight paths of planes ✈️ on routes chosen by Murillo, meaning that what can be heard is never the same twice.
