Dressing for monotone cinema took skill and the leading ladies, Jean Harlow, Dietrich, and Greta Garbo mesmerised the audience in shapely silhouettes, light in colour and rich in detail- ghostly white satins cut on the bias, whilst the supporting cast form a backdrop of dull grey and black, illuminating the star." ​ ​This sets the scene for Jenny Packham 'White Edit'.
