As part of his official visit to Japan, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Goethe-Institut Tokyo yesterday for his very own Talents Tokyo experience. He and Elke Büdenbender were welcomed by Peter Anders of Goethe-Institut Tokyo and Yuriko Koike, the Governor of Tokyo.
They were joined by former Berlinale director and founder of the Berlinale Talents initiative Dieter Kosslick and treated to a discussion between Florian Weghorn of Berlinale Talents, Ichiyama Shozo, the chairperson of Talents Tokyo, and filmmakers, expert mentors and Talents alumni Hayakawa Chie, Eiko Mizuno Gray, Ishikawa Kei and Anthony Chen. President Steinmeier then met with the participants, who presented and discussed what they were working on over these six days at Talents Tokyo.
Talents Tokyo is one of our seven Talents International initiatives around the world, each similar in structure to Berlinale Talents but with their own distinct regional perspectives, benefiting from the networks of locally based film festivals. The six-day programme takes place during and is organised by TOKYO FILMeX, in cooperation with Berlinale Talents and Goethe-Institut Tokyo.
