Flying over a fairytale 🧚‍♀️ 📖 The Cité de Carcassonne (Carcassonne Citadel) has protected its namesake city since the Gallo-Roman era. The legend of how this Occitan city got is name is tied closely to the ramparts of the citadel: the legend goes that Lady Carcas, ruler of the city after the deal of her husband in battle with Charlemagne, was charged with protecting her domain when under siege by the same man. She tricked the French king into thinking the famine-riddled city was replete with food. Demoralized, Charlemagne abandoned the siege, and when his men heard the bells of the city ringing in triumph, they noted "Carcas rings!" or "Carcas sonne!" . . .
