While the creative and technical challenges of pulling off this score were great and varied, what made everything particularly intense was how much the story of the Wang family resonated with me. As an immigrant that set out from my home and family at 14, this movie is a serious emotional gut punch, and I can’t say how many times I’ve laughed and sobbed while working on this, let alone watching it back. @ryanlottmusic and @rafiqbhatia, you are brothers to me. I love you both so much, and I love the way we inspire and challenge one another to be the best that we can be. I also want to credit Ryan for leading the way on this score, and for guiding, encouraging and mentoring me and Rafiq throughout the process while taking on a lion’s share of the cues. I’m extremely proud of us, this soundtrack is insane!!! @dunkwun and Daniel Scheinert, thank you for believing in us and for inviting us to be a part of your creative family. There’s truly nothing that compares to making stuff with your friends, especially when the project is so ambitious and so worthy of everyone’s greatest efforts, and then some. Much like the protagonist in the movie, you pulled out versions of ourselves that we didn’t even know existed, and from what I can tell, I think you inspired that from every single department.
