💯Small changes can make big impacts. The art of subtlety can go a long way. Growing up, my Dad (& his Dad, too), always said that “a good cook knows when less is more.” I remember one such occasion when this advice was bestowed upon me at a young age. I had made my first batch of brownies all by myself, with no help from anyone else. I wanted these brownies to be extra special, so I had added in some “extras” of my own. This included, but was not limited to 😂: nuts, marshmallows, powdered sugar, chocolate chips, and I can’t remember what else my child-mind thought would make them the best brownies ever created. It was important to me that my Dad liked the brownies. Food and cooking were a big part of what he and Grandpa passed down...as well as a tremendous sweet tooth!🍫 My Dad made a big show of being impressed and complimenting my baking skills, that the treat was cooked thoroughly, but not overdone, and making me feel generally very proud of myself. After savoring a bite, he again complimented me and told me how proud he was of what I had made. He then asked me if I’d like any tips for the next time. 💖I eagerly said “yes” and he gently asked me to tell him why I chose the additions that I did. I replied that I liked how the nuts tasted and that I also wanted to have something decorating the top that people could see. I couldn’t give any reasoning as to why I had all the other extras in there. He knelt at my level and said, “My Father always told me that a good cook knows when less is more.
