Those who never make mistakes lose a great many chances to learn something’ Mary Pickford.
.
Born Gladys Marie Smith (1892 – 1979) but known professionally as Mary Pickford, she was a Canadian-American stage and screen actress and producer with a career that was to span five decades. She was a pioneer in the US film industry, co-founding Pickford–Fairbanks Studios and United Artists, and was one of the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
.
A transition in the roles Pickford selected came when she was in her late 30s, no longer able to play a child, a teenage spitfire or a feisty young women so appreciated by her fans, yet not suited for the glamorous heroines of early sound, she retired from film acting in 1933. However not before Lee Miller photographed her in New York for publicity photo’s that Mary would sign and give away.
