ON TRUST • It's all a high wire act, this acting thing. And you can't do it without .. trust. Trust of what or whom? Oneself, firstly, and often "the day" and the vague sensation that all your prep and nerves and the physical cocktail of humans, most of them strangers and equipment, and a humming animal called The Camera...the sense that it will all collide and make something good. You gotta trust your fellow actors...before they've earned it! Strangely, you're screwed if you don't try to, 'cause you'll just be in too much control. You don’t want that. And there's a place where you reeaally have to trust, and that's with Broad Comedy. You just have to go "out there" not knowing where exactly "there" is, and sometimes the only way to find it is to pass it. And that's when your director comes in. To instigate and capture what you're doing and help you feel no shame, and we actors PRAY will be able to edit so that your willingness to go too far pays off as they locate the "there" in the cut. I guess i like to kinda explore the ‘edges of the frame’, as t’were. Whether dark method’y drama, or in this case, the aforementioned Broad Comedy. Been musing all this in the wake of hearing that this sweet sizzling swinging comedy I shot late last year called BAR FIGHT! has just been acquired by @ifcfilms a company I've long long admired greatly. Not since Chuck perhaps (and a few around that time) had I walked quite so far out onto that Broad Comedy tightrope.
