CDA Michaels and Embassy staff honored the memory of the 241 American Marines, sailors, and soldiers, who were killed on Oct 23, 1983, in the Beirut barracks bombing. Those valiant servicemen had come to 🇱🇧 as “a symbol of the international support for the Lebanese people.” A plaque on a cedar tree at the Arlington National Cemetery epitomizes their legacy: "Let peace take root: This Cedar of Lebanon tree grows in living memory of the Americans killed in the Beirut terrorist attack and all victims of terrorism around the world." #TheyCameInPeace @marines قام القائم بالاعمال مايكلز وموظفو السفارة بتكريم ذكرى ال 241 عنصر من المارينز وبحارة البحرية وجنود الجيش الذين قتلوا يوم 23 تشرين الاول 1983 فى تفجير ثكنات مشاة البحرية في بيروت. هؤلاء الجنود الشجعان أتوا الى لبنان ك”رمزا للدعم الدولي للشعب اللبناني". لوحة على شجرة أرز في مقبرة أرلينغتون الوطنية تلخص إرثهم: "لندع السلام يتجذر: تنمو شجرة أرز لبنان هذه تخليدا لذكرى الأميركيين الذين قتلوا في هجوم بيروت الإرهابي وجميع ضحايا الإرهاب في جميع أنحاء العالم".
