The objective of an expedition is to reach the summit; the goal of an expedition is to have a powerful experience in the mountains. Alpenglow’s purpose, our mission, is to facilitate those powerful experiences in mountains, regardless of whether a summit is reached. Summits are never guaranteed. There’s no such thing as 100% success rate on every expedition; Mountains are untamable environments and we are but tiny ants that they (sometimes) let reach their highest point. Mountains humble us, teach us, and give us life. They’re so much more than just a summit, and we climb mountains for so many more reasons than to say we reached the top. Our Peak Lenin team finished up their rotation to Camp 2 and upon arriving into Base Camp decided that they had gotten what they had come for. They’d been on an adventure that they felt impacted their lives and they were able to spend time on an incredible mountain. After a proud climb and effort to their high point at C2, the team packed up and headed home with their psych still high. As the team settled back in from the field, we wanted to share some words from our guide @estebantopomena “Climbing big mountains doesn’t always mean getting to the top of a big hill, but it is always an opportunity to expand what’s known. More than a realization of what you are, it’s a gage that constantly pushes one to see what could be. In this detail might lay one of the keys for the adventurous expansion of self-consciousness.” Congrats on an awesome expedition team! Can’t wait to get back to Peak Lenin next year and see what adventures are in store 🏔
