‘Marchtini’ 🍸 The gram is brimful of the powerful words of the legend that was Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Thank you Archbishop for your words, your actions and the joy with which you delivered both. . As a small toast to raise, here’s a martini variation. It’s inspired by the martini on @thecryptjazzclub’s cocktail menu. The Crypt Jazz is one of Cape Town’s top jazz venues; located in the historic St. George’s Cathedral, from where Archbishop Tutu Led the anti-apartheid peace march on 13 September 1989 with around 30k other Capetonians. . The menu just lists vermouth and gin as ingredients, so I went with it in that order and reversed the martini, making vermouth the star, followed by the only South African gin I own; @cruxlandgin with its savoury leaning botanicals and oily mouthfeel thanks in part to the kalahari truffles in the botanicals. . For the vermouth I used @vermouthdolin dry infused with toasted almonds and dried apricots, finished off with a little orange zest expressed over the top and an orange peel garnish 🍊. . It’s not a dry martini...it’s definitely reversed and wet (ie proportion of vermouth) but I think it’s kinda apt given how The Arch turned expectations on their head time and time again, often in the face of criticism from every conceivable side. — • 60ml toasted almond and dried apricot infused @vermouthdolin dry vermouth • 30ml @cruxlandgin gin 👉 stir ingredients with ice & strain into chilled martini glass.
