Your baby is actively learning from the moment they’re born. Each day, they activate their senses, build neural connections and use their muscles in new ways. You can support their efforts with these simple activities. 🌀 Neck stretching: Hang a mobile so it’s 8 to 12 inches above your baby when they’re lying beneath it. Lay them on their side with their head below the mobile and put your hand on their belly to help them stay in place. Gently spin the mobile to draw their attention and entice them to turn their head toward it. Alternate sides to stretch their neck muscles evenly. ✋ Tactile play: Place a baby washcloth, silky scarf, or mitten over a few of your fingers and gently stroke your baby’s bare feet, hands, belly, and face. This helps your little one learn about different textures and begin to develop body awareness. 💕 Tummy time: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that healthy, full-term babies begin tummy time in the first days of life. Place black and white images on the floor and sit beside them so your newborn can view them while lying across your legs. This stimulates their eyesight and keeps them engaged as they stretch and strengthen their body. 👁️ Focusing practice: Your newborn is learning how to focus their eyes on things that are 8 to 12 inches in front of them. Hold a black and white rattle that distance from your baby’s face and wait for them to focus on it. Then, slowly turn it so they can see it from all angles. 📖 Reading to them: The world is new and overwhelming for your baby, and they find comfort in being close to you. Your familiar voice and scent calm them so they can observe and start getting to know their surroundings. Which of these will you try with your baby? #Lovevery #Newborns #ParentingTips #NewbornActivities
