Over here just reflecting on my CDT trail anniversary 💖Sharing some ✌️✌️ pics from the day I started my CDT hike, six years ago tomorrow. I remember being so excited to be out there, feeling strong, confident in the unknown, and happy to be in new hiking territory, having never been to New Mexico before. I first heard about the CDT just six months earlier, while I was in Hot Springs, NC, hiking the Appalachian Trail. I remember other hikers talking about the high desert, the long stretches between resupply, and epic sections like Glacier National Park and Yellowstone. I was definitely intrigued. Sparks were flying well before I finished the AT. Looking back, I really love how it all unfolded. You get an idea in your head, it festers, evolves into silly dreams, and eventually becomes a strong, stubborn goal. Is that typical Capricorn behavior? 🙂‍↔️ Now here I am, living in Silver City, about 100 miles as the crow flies from the southern terminus—a business owner, a new board member of the CDTC (oh, have I mentioned that?!), and still very much a dreamer. A whirlwind of time and experiences later, I now get to be part of the very Trail Days event that made me fall in love with Silver City and the trail. Happy tears swelling, I’m getting emotional thinking over the last 6 years, about seeing new hikers, the excitement on their faces—happy knowing a new generation is out there. Dreaming and remembering about being out there, reminding myself I am still this person.
