In 2020, we met at Rachel’s maternity shoot. She glowed. Lorne was so gentle. I loved them immediately. In 2021, we met at the beach and chased a storm. We didn’t know that another (scarier) storm was coming. Then, things got quiet. Lorne was sick. Finally, Rachel reached out. She wanted to record their life together. Now more than ever. This year in May, we celebrated their new pregnancy and cried together over Lorne’s cancer diagnosis. In June, we played outside and revelled in the glow of summer while the cicadas buzzed in the trees. In July, we gathered to witness Rachel and Lorne’s vow renewal. They said, ‘We still do.’ In August, I witnessed baby Sadie’s birth. Rachel was a warrior. Lorne caught Sadie as she arrived earthside. I will never forget it. And in September, we gathered back in their bedroom. This time we played, and we laughed at the chaos of parenthood. Another bit of my tattered old heart heals each time we shoot. As we create legacy images for their daughters, Rachel and Lorne give me gifts of their own 🤍 I am so grateful.
