true life: i’m a carnie.
despite working in the fashion industry between LA and NYC my whole career, every August I fly back to my hometown of Saint Paul to help run my family’s cookie stand at the Minnesota State Fair.
started in 1979 and named after my mama, @sweetmarthas opens once a year to pump out buckets of oven hot, chocolate chip cookies to hungry fair-goers.
with close to 700 employees, our 3 cookie booths light up for the 12 days of the fair - featuring dozens of cousins, old friends and newbies alike buzzing along side one another in this temporary hive. feelings of summer camp come to mind - an expedited bond in a parallel universe that exists just once a year.
faster than ever before, those 12 days have come and gone. the chase lights no longer dance. the walk-in ovens are at rest. the blasting pop music has ceased. my ears are deafened by the silence that was once filled with the chatter and laughter of Sweet Martha’s Cookie Jar. with the fair ending and seasons changing, i reflect on another year that has come and gone, thankful as ever for our beyond incredible team and community of cookie lovers.
“what time is it?”
“IT’S COOKIE TIME, HOOAH!”
