In the 1800’s, the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia was under Habsburg domination. Venetian wines were quite strong and in local taverns, the newcomers started to ask for their drink to be ‘spritzen’ with a dash of water to make their wine lighter. Today, this cocktail is traditionally prepared with prosecco, digestif bitters and sparkling water. Try the frozen version: blend the digestif with ice, then top with prosecco and sparkling water.
